Kuba long rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1880

Size: 9′.1″x3′.3″ (277×99 cm)

A dark blue octagonal lattice encloses geometric flowers and is edged by a strong red sawtooth pattern,all on the attractive yellow ground.At the outer edge of the field is a multicolor triangle design.There are several small birds,quincunxes and cruciform motifs at the field edges.The ivory main border employs a discrete pattern of insect like elements in green,red and dark blue.There are two striped minor borders,two quincunx guards and four two tone barber pole lines of varying widths and several solid lines.At each end is a soumak band followed by a knotted warp net.The weave is tight and the pile is high.All the colors are fantastic,clear and from natural sources.The condition of the rug is good.SOLD
