Kozak prayer rug from western Anatolia,Turkey

Age: circa 1890

Size: 3′.10"x2′.10" (117×86 cm)  with the kilim ends

The attractively abrashed blue green niche field displays three columns of red serrated stylized palmettes.The cochineal red spandrels transition to the arch with red and ivory hooks,and are ornamented with tiny rosettes.There are three borders:the widest with an ivory ground is placed next to the central panel and utilizes abstract leaves or flowers in blue,burgundy,red and blue green;the narrowest intermediary border has a burgundy ground with small triangular motifs;the outermost border is banded in oblique panels in various colors and each one is centered by an octagonal rosette.At each end is a wide flatwoven panel in blue,red and blue green with narrow black and ivory stripes.All the colors are from natural sources.The wool is soft and the rug is in good condition.SOLD
