Konagkend rug from Kuba district,eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Size: 4′.6″x4′.0″ (137×122 cm)
This tightly woven Konagkend rug shows a medium blue field with striped ivory medallions in the corners and smaller geometric elements.The red sub field is pinched at both ends and displays two yellow nested medallions with stars and two smaller medallions.In addition tiny diamonds,stars and medallions are distributed on the red ground.The cream main border hosts colorful stylized medallions and is flanked by connected polychrome medallions.There are ribbon pattern tertiary borders in red and blue and six barber pole lines in the border system.At each end is a solid red line followed by a beige plainweave band.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition except for the selvedges reinforced and the pile in the middle is slightly lower than the rest of the rug.
