Size: 6′.8″x4′.3″ (203×130 cm)

Dated 1875 and inscribed “Ara”,a male name,this attractive and unusual Kazak rug is a charmer.The madder red field displays seven flattened octagram medallions alternating in green and navy,uniformly enclosing small red rectangles developing stylized flowers.Secondary supporting elements include hooked motifs,rosettes,diamonds and stars.The ivory main border shows connected stars with a human figure at the top right corner.It is flanked by minor borders hosting reciprocal triangles in abrashed red and blue.There are four red and yellow narrow barber pole lines in the border system.Variations in the border system include:Narrowing of the borders at the lower end;and a change to keyhole reciprocal at the top inner minor border.At each end is a narrow flatwoven finish.All the colors are from natural sources.The handle is chunky and meaty.The condition of the rug is good.SOLD
