Gabbeh rug from south west Persia (Iran)

Size: 7′.2″x5′.10″ (218×178 cm)

The attractive red field displays a kilim pattern of diagonal color band consisting of diamonds in shades of blue,green,ivory and yellow.The innermost border displays a parade of reversing interesting horned animals,probably goats,along with rosettes and other informal geometric elements.The main golden yellow border displays chains of colorful diamonds similar to those in the field.The outermost dark blue border shows color diagonal motifs and along one side are daily work marker knots in ivory.There are three barber pole lines in the border system.The red and green selvedges are striped in south west Persian manner.At each end is a beige flatweave followed by long braided tassels.The handle is crisp and robust.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
