Fachralo prayer Kazak rug from southwest Caucasus

The high velvety pile of this intensely colored Fachralo prayer rug is most extraordinary. The madder red field is edged by Talish style rosettes and centers a forest green mihrab panel which contains a six pointed red and ivory nested medallion. In addition there are numerous geometric elements including squares, hooked diamonds, ivory boxes and lesser stylized motifs in the field. The slanted leaf and chalice ivory main border has additional trapezoids in red, green and blue. There are two blue secondary borders with diagonal bar patterns, and another blue stripe with a zig-zag surrounds the central panel.Particularly noteworthy are the volute rosettes in an unusual rich honey color. All the colors are from natural sources. The condition of the rug is good with good pile. The narrow barber pole strip is missing at the top end.SOLD
