Chi Chi rug from eastern Caucasus,west coast of the Caspian Sea

Age: circa 1870

Measurements: 6′.0"x4′.2" (183×127 cm)

This Chi Chi is a text book example of the type.The navy blue field is closely covered by hooked cruciform elements forming color diagonals in ivory,aubergine,burnt orange,lime green and light blue.Each motif centers an eight pointed star.The stars are repeated in slightly larger form in the ivory inner border.There is a keyhole reciprocal surrounding the field within the minor border,and is matched by a similar pattern on the outside of the rug.The dark brown major border displays the classic Chi Chi rosette and diagonal bar design and is flanked by multicolor V shaped flowers.There are eight barber pole narrow lines in various colors.The wool is soft and the handle is pliable.All the colors are from natural sources.The original kilim ends and knots are present.The condition of this top piece is very good.SOLD
