This unusual Caucasian scatter rug displays a “robot” resembling a keyhole design with a faceted head and rectangular base,on a red field. The ivory surround encloses octagons in navy, red, ivory, yellow and blue and is decorated with a floating fork pattern. In addition there are small triangular fringe fillers. The ivory main border hosts floating S’s.There are two minor borders in blue and red and navy and red keyhole reciprocals;and the tertiary dark brown ground stripes show multicolor rosettes. There are five narrow barber pole lines in the border system, which transition to lazy S’s at the bottom part of the rug,an irregularity sought after by connoisseurs. The bottom finish is a macrame warp band. The handle is soft and pliable. All the colors are from natural sources. The condition of the rug is good. This is a sub-group Caucasian rug which has the characteristics of south and eastern Caucasian rugs.
