Aksaray rug from central Anatolia (Turkey)

Size: 5′.8″x5′.4″ (173×163 cm)
This thickly piled central Anatolian rustic rug shows two octofoil medallions in the shades of green,peach,shades of red,ivory,burgundy and light brown.In the field are scattered lozenges,loops,triangles,lazy S’s,quincunxes,stylized stars and other interesting elements.There are partial hooked lines at the edges of the field.Details in the green and blue medallions include:central squares and octagons occupying every projection.The deep peach main border hosts floating crosses and stylized S’s in various colors.The outermost black and ivory reciprocal triangle minor border is balanced by an inner quincunx patterned strip.At each end is a red flatwoven finish and the broad selvedges are banded in pile colors.The wild long pile indicates that it may be a Yatak especially created for the domestic interior.The wool is exceptionally shiny and lush.The handle is soft,chunky and heavy.The rug is extremely heavy because of the amount of wool was used to weave.All the colors are from natural sources.The piece is in good condition.SOLD
